Russia seeks to declare Jehovah's Witnesses an extremist group Russia's justice ministry has filed a lawsuit with its supreme court to declare the national headquarters of the country's Jehovah’s Witnesses an extremist organization. The legal filing is noted on the court's website with no date given for legal action. The group's administrative center in Russia is located about 25 miles northwest of St. Petersburg. In this 1999 file photo, a group of Jehovah's Witnesses, right, sit in court during their trial in ...more AP The press office for the Russian branch of the religion  says on its website  that such a declaration, if successful, would “entail disastrous consequences for freedom of religion in Russia" and directly affect about 175,000 followers at more than 2,000 congregations in the country. Leicester city meets Atletico madrid in UEFA quarterfinals

Image
Photo by Michael Regan/Getty Images UCL draw: Leicester meets Atleti; Spanish sides separated Leicester City’s route to the UEFA Champions League semifinal goes through the Vicente Calderon. Craig Shakespeare’s bunch will meet stingy Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals, a tie drawn Friday in Nyon. The first legs are April 11-12, with the second legs one week later, and there’s still a chance for a 75 percent La Liga semifinal. Elsewhere, Carlo Ancelotti has been handed a big chance for revenge, as he’ll lead Bayern Munich against Real Madrid. Entertainment could be at a maximum when high-flying Monaco mixes it up with its German stylistic twin, Borussia Dortmund. Last but not least, a tie with 16 UCL Final appearances: Juventus vs. Barcelona.

UEFA champion's league quarterfinalist

Image
Photo by Paul Gilham/Getty Images The UEFA Champions League quarterfinal draw is made on Friday, and it features a mix of repeat quarterfinalists and newcomers to this stage of the competition. AS Monaco hasn’t been here in over a decade, while Leicester City has never been here at all. After those two, the remaining sides are the powerhouses you’d expect to see. La Liga is well represented, with all of Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Barcelona making it to the quartefinals — though the last of those needed the biggest comeback in the competition’s history to make it. Juventus is keeping Serie A’s hopes alive, while German giants Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are still in the tournament too. This is the first round where there will be no restrictions on the draw. Seed, group placement and national affiliation don’t matter anymore, so we could see two top teams or two local rivals get pitted against each other. The first legs of the qua...

Barcelona's miracle

Barcelona’s Argentinian forward Lionel Messi kicka to score on a penalty during the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg football match FC Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain FC at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona on March 8, 2017. / AFP PHOTO It was 2-0 five minutes from half-time when PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa prodded the ball into his own net after Andres Iniesta had found the key pass with a clever backheel. Lionel Messi made it 3-0 from the penalty spot just minutes into the second half after Neymar was fouled as Barcelona appeared poised to complete their unlikely comeback. PSG’s Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani silenced the Camp Nou with a powerful right-foot drive just after the hour mark. But two goals from Neymar in three minutes — one from a penalty — brought the Spanish giants level before Roberto stabbed the winner in from close range. Trump's 1st 100 days. Can trump fulfil his promise to repeal& replace obamacare?

Image
Trump’s First 100 Days: Can Trump fulfill his promise to repeal & replace Obamacare? By  Elise Viebeck March 7 at 11:00 PM Here’s where things stand heading into Day 48 of the Trump administration: Donald Trump said one of his first priorities as president would be repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act. Now he’s learning that this task is much harder than he anticipated — no thanks to his own party. It turns out that  disagreements among Washington Republicans  are a big part of the challenge facing leaders as they try to follow through on Trump’s campaign promise to implement a more conservative vision for American health care. Trump: 'I'm proud to support the replacement plan'   Play Video0:50   President Trump praised the House Republicans' plan to alter the Affordable Care Act, March 7, at the White House. (The Washington Post) House Republicans released legislation to replace Obamacare on Monday night,...

North Korea fires ballistic missile

North Korea fires ballistic missile, first since Trump elected in U.S.   Play Video0:49   North Korea test launched a ballistic missile early Sunday, Feb. 12. After news of the missile test, President Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was visiting the U.S. at the time, held a brief joint news conference and presented a united front against the ballistic missile. (Reuters) TOKYO — North Korea fired a ballistic missile Sunday morning, its first provocation since Donald Trump was elected president of the United States and one that sets up a test for the new administration in Washington. The missile was fired shortly before 8 a.m. local time from a known test site in North Pyongan province in the west of the country, not far from the border with China, and flew over the Korean Peninsula and into the Sea of Japan, South Korea’s joint chiefs of staff said. The launch happened while President Trump was hosting Japanese Prime Minister Shinz...

Zlatan ibrahimovic to face ban

Manchester United’s top four hopes took a hit with a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday, but they might be affected for a few more games past that one. After Tyrone Mings delivered a stomp toward the head of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the United striker responded with an elbow, and the referee apparently didn’t spot it either. Andrew Surman was then sent off for retaliation against Ibrahimovic. Given that Ibrahimovic wasn’t even shown a yellow card for this action, it seems likely that referee Kevin Friend and his assistants didn’t spot it. If an elbow isn’t described in Friend’s post-match report, Ibrahimovic could be subject to discipline from the FA. The usual suspension for an incident like this is three games. The same is possible for Mings’ stomp. Later in the game, the soccer gods offered up a bit of a correction. Ibrahimovic had the opportunity to take a penalty in the second half, but he missed — fitting, given that he shouldn...

Barack and michelle obama sign $60m bumper book deal

Barack and Michelle Obama have signed a deal to publish their memoirs with New York-based Penguin Random House, in a coveted contract reportedly worth tens of millions of dollars. America’s first African American president is already the author of two memoirs and a children’s book. He has frequently declared himself to have a “writer’s sensibility” and has said he does not want to write a conventional blow-by-blow account of his time in the White House. Michelle Obama’s memoir is likely to be just as eagerly anticipated. A descendant of slaves, she became the first African American first lady and garnered high approval ratings — to the point where she was arguably one of the country’s most respected and popular women. Penguin Random House said in a statement it has “acquired world publication rights for two books, to be written by president and Mrs Obama respectively.” – Record sum – The terms of the deal we...

Sahara Reporters has obtained the information that the UK doctors, who examined President Muhammadu Buhari's ear infection, have allowed him to return to Nigeria on Thursday, June 16.
